PROJECT TYPE: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Chesapeake Movies
Chestertown, Maryland

Chesapeake Movies, a Baltimore-based theater operator, contracted with RCM Strategic Consulting to assist them with the renovation and re-opening of a closed movie theater in Chestertown, Maryland. The company not only needed time-sensitive assistance raising the gap financing necessary to complete the deal, it also needed assistance with community engagement and outreach.

The RCM Strategic Consulting team successfully raised $75,000 in funding from the Town of Chestertown and Kent County in the form of a loan against future amusement tax revenues. Rebecca Murphy created the strategy, structured the deal, negotiated the terms, and obtained all the necessary approvals. She also conducted outreach to the community, including Washington College, Chestertown Main Street, and other stakeholders to ensure a successful opening. The theater was in successful operation until the COVID-19 pandemic and made all of its loan payments. Post-COVID, a new operator came on to run the theater.
